With just 1.5 seconds to play and the game on the line Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant appeared as composed as he would be during a morning shootaround, when he knocked down a 15 foot jumper causing the fans at Chesapeake Energy Arena to explode in celebration and giving the Thunder a 99-98 win over the visiting Dallas Mavericks; to take a 1-0 lead in their first round Playoff series. The home team trailed by seven points with less than 3:00 in the contest, and then traded the lead back and forth with the Mavericks until Dirk Nowitzki hit a pair at the charity stripe with nine seconds remaining giving Dallas the one point advantage.
Russell Westbrook was the leading scorer in the game as he knocked down 28 points while Durant had 25 points for the night. Nowitzki put up 25 points for the defending NBA Champions while Jason Terry came off the bench with 20 points. The Mavericks stood toe to toe with the Thunder for the entire contest, holding the lead at the conclusion of the first three quarters of action. However the Thunder did not panic when they went down by seven points late in the game; instead they regrouped and fought their way back to eventually set themselves up for the victory.
Westbrook dropped 28 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and three steals while Durant had 25 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks in the victory. Serge Ibaka scored 22 points, 6 rebounds, 5 blocks, 1 assist and 1 steal while James Harden seemed to be fully recovered from his concussion as he added 19 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.
Nowitzki knocked down 25 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal while Terry came off the bench with 20 points, 5 assists and 1 rebound. Shawn Marion scored 17 points and had 8 rebounds while Vince Carter added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the contest. Oklahoma City leads the series 1-0 with game two to be played in their arena Monday night.
