Knee Surgery Likely To End Magical Season For Jeremy Lin

New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin’s season which saw him go from an obscure NBA player cut by two different franchises to being featured on the cover of “Time Magazine” has most likely come to an end according to the “New York Post” as the Knicks announced that Lin will undergo surgery to repair a torn left meniscus. The estimated time of recovery from the procedure is six weeks; which would allow him to return to action if New York is still playing during the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

Lin spoke to reporters before the Knicks topped the Cleveland Cavaliers Saturday night by a final score of 91-75 at Madison Square Garden. The second year guard told the collected media “It sucks, but when I come back I’ll be stronger than I’ll ever be. Our goal was to give it about five to seven days to see how it reacts and see if I can play on it the rest of the season. knew I had to have surgery at some point; whether it was now or after the end of the season. We did rehab all day (for a week). We did everything we could.

Lin had been out of the Knicks lineup since last Monday and leaves the team with now two of the club’s starters out for an extended period. New York forward Amar’e Stoudemire is on the shelf with bulging discs in his back and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks. Veteran Baron Davis, who suffered through back problems of his own earlier in the season has taken over as the starter at the point for the squad.

The Knicks hold a two and a half game lead over the Milwaukee Bucks for the eighth and final Playoff slot in the Eastern Conference with 13 games remaining on their schedule. They have gone 8-2 in their last ten contests and seem to be playing with a new vitality under interim coach Mike Woodson. Carmelo Anthony has played his best ball of the season as he has a far better rapport with Woodson than he did under former bench boss Mike D’Antoni.

Lin will become a restricted Free Agent at the end of the current campaign and has expressed his wish to return to the team that gave him his shot to breakout this season. With Nets point guard Deron Williams, who will also become a Free Agent this summer most likely out of their price range due to salary cap restrictions, the team will most likely want to bring him back as well.
