The Miami Heat shot a blistering 56.0% (42-75) from the field and 60% (6-10) from outside arc; held a double-digit lead at the half and the Boston Celtics could never recover as the Heat treated their home fans to an easy 115-108 win on Tuesday night. LeBron James once again led the way for Miami as he dropped 26 points while Dwyane Wade added another 24 for the night.
Celtics All-Star guard Ray Allen knocked down a game high 28 points while his back-court mate and fellow All-Star Rajon Rondo racked up a double-double with 22 points in the club’s second straight loss. Boston also shot well from the floor as they hit 51.4% (37-72) and 63.2% (12-19) from three point range, however the momentum was with the home team throughout the game.
After trailing by as many as nine points in the first the Celtics were within two points before Miami rookie point guard Norris Cole split a pair at the line putting his team on top 30-27 at the conclusion of the period. The Heat would pull ahead in the second, leading by as many as 17 points when James Jones drained a 25 foot trey with 3:50 left in the quarter. Miami would enter the locker room as the game reached the half with the upper-hand holding a 69-54 advantage.
Boston would chip away at their deficit throughout the third quarter and had worked it down to single digits at the end of the period. Brandon Bass made one of two at the charity-stripe with all zeroes on the clock and the Heat lead was down to 91-83 as the two teams entered the fourth. Keyon Dooling connected on a 23-foot trey with 2:01 left in the contest bringing the Celtics within three points at 108-105; however Boston could never get any closer and the Heat held on for the win.
James had 26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block while Wade put in 24 points, 8 assists, 4 blocks, 2 steals and a rebound. Cole came off the bench with 20 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals while Chris Bosh recorded a double-double as he scored 18 points, 11 rebounds, an assist and a block.
Allen led all players with 28 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals while Rondo had 22 points, 12 assists and 8 rebounds. Dooling came off the bench with 18 points and 1 steal while Bass also came off of the pine adding 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks and an assist. Kevin Garnett chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block in the loss. Miami now at 2-0 will play in Charlotte on Wednesday as they face the Bobcats while the Celtics who are now 0-2, travel to New Orleans as they take on the Hornets on Wednesday.
