File this under everybody loves to kick a man when he is down. It seems that Miami Heat forward LeBron James’ ripping into fans after the Heat were eliminated in game six of the NBA Finals by the Dallas Mavericks not only hurt his reputation in the Association; it seems that it has crossed over to the world of baseball. The “Associated Press” has reported that the Peoria Chiefs who are the Class A minor league affiliate for the Chicago Cubs held a promotion Thursday night as they hosted the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
The team held a “LeBron James NBA Championship Replica Ring Giveaway” Thursday night. There was only one problem; the rings just like the Miami Heat 2011 NBA Championship do not really exist. There was also talk that the Chiefs would skip the game’s fourth inning to honor the fact that the Miami Heat All-Star did not show up for the fourth quarter of any games during the NBA Championship series. The Chiefs did however show up for the fourth inning but it was to no avail as they lost the contest by a final score of 2-0.
James may have thought he had a tough time last summer as he dealt with the backlash of NBA fans across the country after deciding to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers to sign as a Free Agent with Miami. Judging by the reaction we have seen since the Finals ended on Sunday, the former NBA MVP may be in for a pretty rough ride in the next few months. As I have been writing since James went on ESPN last summer to announce his intentions to take his talents to South Beach; Karma Is A Bear!
