Doc Rivers Has Throat Surgery To Remove Non-Malignant Growth

The “Boston Herald” reported Tuesday that Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers underwent throat surgery in Boston on Tuesday. The procedure was performed to remove a non-cancerous growth. Rivers will be unable to talk for the next two weeks which he told reporters would make his wife very happy. The Boston coach signed a five-year contract extension with the team last week which is reported to be valued at $35 million over the life of the pact. The Celtics were knocked out of the Playoffs last week by the Miami Heat who beat them 4-1 in their second round match-up. The 49-year-old coach has been the bench boss of the Celtics since 2004; previously he was the head coach of the Orlando Magic.
