It is very unusual when an NBA player who hasn’t played a game in four seasons garners interest from any team in the Association. Yet that is the case as according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, former Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden is receiving feelers from several clubs.
Spears further stated:
Oden, 25,has received interest from the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers and Memphis Grizzlies, league sources said.
Four years of inactivity and he gets all of this attention. But to be fair, it is possible that he contribute to some degree. I’m not convinced that he will be a starting center, but can back up someone.
He needs to be with a team that isn’t really to challenge for a championship and/or already has a reliable 5 on their roster. That alone should whittle down the number of teams who are interested in Oden.
No matter what the end result is, I seriously doubt that Oden will duplicate the 16.7 PPG, 12.8 RPG and 3.4 BPG he enjoyed back in 2009.
And for any NBA franchise that wants him, they need to have low expectations.
