Your Old Pal New York Vinnie is going to be walking a treacherous path while writing this column. Frequent visitors to New York Vinnie’s House, know that I live and die with “MY BOYS” the New York Knicks; however what you might not be aware of is that New York Vinnie’s “MAIN CAT” and My Boss here at PRO HOOPS CENTRAL, the SACKMAN grew up in Boston and though as a true pro he tries to remain objective he does still have a soft spot for the Boston Celtics.
Now it should come as no surprise that New York Vinnie does not like the Celtics, but I have always had a lot of respect for the club, due to what they have accomplished as well as the way they conduct themselves. Unlike the bunch of “FRICKIN PUDS” on the Miami Heat roster, Boston has always acted classy whether they win or lose.
While the spotlight has shone on the Brooklyn Nets, the Heat, the Knicks and the Orlando Magic, Boston president of basketball operations Danny Ainge, has quickly and quietly re-tooled the Celtics roster. The “Boston Herald” reported that the team held a meet-and-greet with the media on Saturday, as they introduced Brandon Bass, Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox, who were all re-signed by the team and the newest member of the club veteran guard Jason Terry.
Although they have pretty much flown under the radar this summer, the Celtics have built a pretty dangerous team that could end up doing a lot of damage and end up going pretty far next season. Boston still has three superstars in Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo and they had a good draft picking up Sullinger and center Fab Melo. For a team that the HATERS have said that the Celtics time has passed since they won the title in 2008, that looks like a pretty good roster to New York Vinnie.
The Celtics still have one hole to fill at the starting two-guard slot as Avery Bradley will start the season on the shelf after having shoulder surgery, however the team is hoping to fill that void with either Courtney Lee or O.J. Mayo, both of whom are unrestricted free agents. New York Vinnie has always felt that Mayo can ball and he would be a good addition to Boston.
So even though all the attention has been on other teams in the East so far this summer, do not be surprised if the Celtics end up being one of the toughest teams in the East next season!
