The last few months have been a season of change for the Los Angeles Lakers; head coach Phil Jackson retired from the game after the NBA campaign came to an end replaced by former Cleveland Cavaliers bench boss Mike Brown. Last week the club sent reigning NBA Sixth Man Of The Year Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for a first round draft pick. The “Los Angeles Times” is reporting that for the team’s All-Star shooting guard Kobe Bryant’s personal life is also in a state of flux, as his wife Vanessa filed for a divorce on Friday, citing irreconcilable difficulties.
The couple had been married for ten years and had survived a major crisis back in 2003, when an employee from a hotel in Colorado accused the guard of raping her. Bryant admitted to having sex with the woman but said it was consensual;and the charges were later dropped. Vanessa stood by his side at a press conference and released a statement saying “I know that my husband has made a mistake; the mistake of adultery.”
The couple who have two small daughters together released a statement asking for the media to cover the story with restraint. The statement read “We ask that in the interest of our young children, and in light of the upcoming holiday season, the public respect our privacy during this most difficult time.”
