San Antonio Spurs veteran point guard Tony Parker, most likely spends more than $2000 per month during an NBA season in tips; yet according to the “Associated Press” the Spurs star will be playing for about that amount until the NBA Lockout is settled. It is not that Parker is that desperate for money, Parker is a vice-president of a basketball team in France, and will take to the hardwood to get the team some notoriety as well as more victories.
The guard who has helped lead the Spurs to three NBA Titles in his career, will be playing for French club ASVEL, which is located in Villeurbanne, which is located in the southeast section of the country. The salary he will be earning while playing for the team is a fraction of what he earns with San Antonio. Parker told reporters “I’ll be playing nearly for free … If I play the entire season, we’ll go for the title.”
The French native has played for 10 seasons in the Association, having been drafted by the Spurs late in the first round in 2001. He has averaged 16.7 points, 5.7 assists, and 3.1 rebounds in his NBA career. ASVEL will play their first game on October 14, and Parker is expected to play, as of now.
