After a little more than a year since being dismissed as the General Manager of the Portland Trail Blazers, Kevin Pritchard is back in the NBA as the “Indianapolis Star” has reported that the Indiana Pacers have hired him to be their new Director of Player Personnel. The formers Blazers executive will report directly to General Manager David Morway and Team President Larry Bird. His duties will include scouting for the team as well as helping Bird and Morway make decisions on Free Agents. The Pacers will have a lot of space under the salary cap once the Lockout is settled and they hope to help the team improve with some key signings.
Morway told reporters “Larry and I feel like Kevin is a strong addition to our franchise. We’re looking forward to him working with us. He’s been a player, coach and in management in this league. Those are all pluses for us. He offers another set of eyes in improving our team as we move into the next phase of things.”
Pritchard spent three years as General Manager for Portland, from 2007 through 2010, and was fired immediately after the 2010 NBA Draft by the club. There has been speculation that Pritchard has been hired by the Pacers to take over as Team President after the upcoming campaign if Larry Bird decides to retire. Bird has denied those rumors.
