NBA Draft Gets Underway As Cavaliers Draft Kyrie Irving Number One

The 2011 NBA Draft is officially underway as the Cleveland Cavaliers have selected Duke point guard Kyrie Irving with the number one selection. Cleveland got the pick from the Los Angeles Clippers in a trade that sent Mo Williams and Jamario Moon to the Clippers while Cleveland got Baron Davis and the Clippers draft choice. Irving played just 11 games last season for Duke as a freshman due to injury but is looked at as the best point guard in the Draft by many NBA Observers. Cleveland will also pick again at number four in the first round.

Kyrie and Derrick are good players, but I don’t think they would be drafted in the top 5 of most drafts. Maybe the foreign players will surprise us 5 years from now. There will be a lot of hole-filling in this draft, no franchise-changing players.
