The Toronto Raptors moved former coach Jay Triano from the bench to the front office as a consultant to President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo just eight days ago. According to report published by the “Toronto Star” the team has already decided they want one of two men to be their next bench boss. The newspaper’s sources are saying that current Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Dwane Casey and Boston Celtics assistant coach Lawrence Frank are the two candidates that they are interested in to take over for Triano.
Frank had been a head coach with the New Jersey Nets before being fired by the team just a few games into the 2009-2010 campaign. He joined the Celtics staff as an assistant to Doc Rivers before last season and Rivers speaks glowingly about his assistant. Casey’s name has been mentioned prominently every time there has been an opening in the Association for a head coach for the past few seasons but has never been offered a gig. Casey of course is in the midst of the NBA Finals which are currently tied at 2-2 with game five to be played in Dallas on Thursday night.
