Former NBA MVP LeBron James came up big for the Miami Heat as they defeated the Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bulls in the previous two rounds of the NBA Playoffs. His numbers have tapered off dramatically against the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals with his worst Post Season performance of his career Tuesday night in game four of the match-up as Miami fell to Dallas by a final score of 86-83. The All-Star forward never came close to getting on track as he finished the night with just eight points. A report from “ESPN.com” on Thursday states that James realizes he has to answer the bell Thursday night as the Heat take the floor against the Mavericks in Dallas. James texted a message on his Twitter account Thursday morning saying “Now or Never!!”
He told reporters that the message was meant exclusively for him to help pump him up for the pivotal game of the Finals with the series currently knotted up at 2-2. He said “That’s just how I was feeling at the time, honestly. It was just a personal message to myself. It has nothing to do with anyone else besides myself. I was just in the zone at that point.”
The former member of the Cleveland Cavaliers who signed as a Free Agent with the Heat last summer realizes just how critical this game is for his club. He told reporters “I understand what is at stake. This is a big game, probably the biggest game of my life. I’m approaching it that way. Not probably, it is.”
The forward is well aware that many NBA observers believe that his not coming through in clutch moments against the Orlando Magic in 2009 and against the Celtics last year was the reason that the Cavaliers did not advance further than they did in the Playoffs. He also is very cognizant of the fact that he will be under a magnifying glass Thursday night. The question now becomes will he wilt under the pressure or will he finally rise to the occasion in game five. We will find that answer out in just a few more hours.
