Isiah Thomas Reportedly on Short List To Become Next Pistons Coach

Back in the late eighties Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars helped the Detroit Pistons win back to back NBA Titles. Dumars is now the  Team President for the Pistons and according to a report from “ESPN.com” Tuesday evening Thomas is on a short list to become the club’s next head coach. According to the report Thomas along with former teammate Bill Laimbeer, current Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Kelvin Sampson and former Atlanta Hawks bench boss Mike Woodson are the leading candidates to be on the bench for the team next season. Detroit fired former head coach John Kuester Sunday after two years as the club’s head coach.

Thomas nearly destroyed the New York Knicks during his tenure as Team President as well as coaching the team for his final two years with the team. However Thomas was effective as the bench boss for the Indiana Pacers as he took that team to the Playoffs three years in a row. Detroit fired Flip Saunders after the 2008 season and replaced him with former assistant Michael Curry. Curry was dismissed after one season and then Dumars chose Kuester who had a record of 57-107 in his two seasons.
