The “Oregonian” reported Monday that in a rather surprising move; the Portland Trail Blazers fired team General Manager Rich Cho after holding the position for less than a year. Cho signed with the club last summer to replace former General Manager Kevin Pritchard who was dismissed by the Blazers the day the 2010 NBA Draft was held. Cho had previously been the assistant G.M for the Oklahoma City Thunder before moving to Portland. The team has named Chad Buchanan who is the Director Of College Scouting as acting General Manager.
Blazers President Larry Miller issued a statement through the organization stating that Cho was just not the right man for the job. Miller said “The fit between Rich and our team simply wasn’t right. This was a tough move because I respect Rich and he’s a good person with many strong skills. But it simply wasn’t a good match.”
The Trail Blazers despite being decimated by injuries ended the regular season with a 48-34 record. The team was the number six seed in the Western Conference and fell to the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the Playoffs. There has been no word of whom Portland may be interested to fill the position on a permanent basis.
