McHale Could Be Front Runner For Vacant Rockets Head Coach Slot

Yahoo Sports” reported on Saturday that according to their sources former Minnesota Timberwolves General Manager and head coach Kevin McHale may be the front-runner to become the next head coach of the Houston Rockets. According to the report the Basketball Hall Of Fame member won over Rockets executives during a meeting in Chicago on Thursday. The former Boston Celtics power forward is known to be one of three final candidates to become the Rockets next coach. Celtics assistant and former New Jersey Nets bench boss Lawrence Frank and Dallas  assistant coach Dwane Casey are the other two men that Houston is interested in.

The report says that McHale could be offered the post as early as next week. He has also been interviewed by the Golden State Warriors for their vacant coaching slot. McHale spent 13 years playing for the Celtics winning three NBA Titles during his playing career. He became an assistant General Manager with the T-Wolves in 1994 and was with the club until they fired him after the 2009 season.
