The NBA announced on Wednesday that Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin was named the Association’s Rookie Of The Year. Griffin had been selected with the number one pick in the 2009 NBA Draft but injuries kept him sidelined for the entire campaign. He would more than make up for that season as he would impress the voting panel so much he received all 118 first place votes. The Clippers forward made the NBA All-Star team this season and would be declared the winner of the NBA Slam Dunk Contest that took place on All-Star weekend.
Griffin would receive 590 points by the voters twice as many as John Wall of the Washington Wizards who finished in second place with 295 points. Wall was selected with the number one pick in last June’s NBA Draft by Washington. Sacramento Kings forward DeMarcus Cousins placed third as he got 81 points by the panel. Landry Fields of the New York Knicks ended up in fourth place with a total of 62 points while Gary Neal of the San Antonio Spurs came in fifth with 19 points.
