The Memphis Grizzlies shot 49.4% (44-89) from the floor Sunday afternoon led by veteran forward Zach Randolph who recorded a double-double with a game high 34 points as they trounced the higher seeded Oklahoma City Thunder at the Oklahoma City Arena by a final score of 114-101. For the second consecutive Playoff series the Grizzlies capture game one over their opponent as they came out strong in the first 12 minutes of play and never let their intensity waver. Kevin Durant knocked down 33 points while Russell Westbrook added 29 points in the loss for the Thunder.
Grizzlies center Marc Gasol would drive the lane and put the rock in the hole with 35 seconds to play in the first period putting his team on top 28-24 at the end of the quarter. The Thunder would fall further behind during the second and as the two teams headed to their locker rooms when the game reached the half Memphis would hold a 57-47 advantage.
Oklahoma City would make a run during the third and would cut their deficit to just three points with 7:58 remaining in the period as Westbrook hit a mid-range shot making it a 63-60 game. However the momentum quickly swung back to the Grizzlies and they would be ahead by double-digits as the quarter concluded with the score 84-71. The Thunder never got closer than trailing by nine points in the final quarter and Memphis easily held on to take the first game of the match-up.
Randolph scored 34 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, 3 steals and had 2 assists as he led his team to victory. Marc Gasol had another strong Post Season performance as he had 20 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks and a steal while Mike Conley knocked down 15 points, 7 assists, 2 steals, 1 block and 1 rebound. Tony Allen added 12 points while Shane Battier came off the bench and chipped in 11 points.
Durant put up 33 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and a steal while Westbrook added 29 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal. Serge Ibaka scored 16 points, 11 rebounds, 5 blocks and an assist in the contest. Memphis take a 1-0 lead in the Western Conference Semi-Finals and the two teams will meet again on Tuesday for game two.
