The Dallas Mavericks shot a sizzling 50% (39-78) from the floor Thursday night as they defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 103-96 and wrapped up their first round Western Conference series by a 4-2 margin. Dirk Nowitzki racked up a double-double with a game high 33 points while Jason Terry came off the pine and put up 22 points for the night. Gerald Wallace also recorded a double-double for Portland with 32 points while LaMarcus Aldridge also had a double-double including 24 points in his last game of the season. The Blazers would start the game strong on the offensive end but the Mavericks took over during the second quarter and held on for the win.
Portland would come out looking like a team expecting to extend the series to the full seven game while the Mavericks looked dazed and confused. Chris Johnson slammed the rock through the hole with 11 seconds remaining in the period and the Blazers would be on top as the quarter came to an end with the score 27-19. Peja Stojakovic buried a 23 foot trey with 5:07 left in third and Dallas would grab the advantage at 38-37. Terry would widen the Mavericks lead at the buzzer when he stroked a three-point basket from 25 feet out and as the two teams left the court when the game reached the half Dallas had the upper hand at 52-43.
The Mavericks stayed totally in command during the third and would lead Portland at the conclusion of the period by a 75-62 margin. Portland would make a run in the final quarter as Gerald Wallace slammed the ball home with 5:24 on the clock getting his team to within one point of their opponent at 86-85. But Dallas would score the next five straight points and the Blazers did not have enough left in the tank to challenge again.
Nowitzki had 33 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and a block in the Mavericks victory. Jason Terry added 22 points, 8 assists and 3 rebounds while Shawn Marion knocked down 16 points, 6 rebounds and had 1 assist.
Wallace had a double-double with 32 points, 12 boards, 2 assists and a steal. Aldridge scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Wesley Matthews chipped in 19 points, 2 rebounds and had an assist. Dallas will match-up against the Los Angeles Lakers in the next round of the Playoffs.
